Um... let's think this one through, smart guy.

One staple of far-future science fiction novels is the idea of the human race adrift in the cosmos, our home planet destroyed far back in some murky past. Sometimes the Earth's destruction is blamed on a hostile alien race or freak astrological event, but more often the blame is placed on our own shoulders: scientists experimenting with lab-created black holes had a little accident leading to the black hole sucking down our planet. There is often an implied moral lesson to this backstory. Like, LET'S NOT START FUCKING AROUND WITH BLACK HOLES!

From the BBC: "A fireball created in a US particle accelerator has the characteristics of a black hole, a physicist has said.
It was generated at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) in New York, US, which smashes beams of gold nuclei together at near light speeds.
Horatiu Nastase says his calculations show that the core of the fireball has a striking similarity to a black hole."
